The response to those trousers was immediate and overwhelming - people wanted them. Adapted Trends launched from that moment, driven by the recognition that in the UK, there are very few clothing brands designing genuinely accessible, on-trend clothing specifically for young people and adults with disabilities, special educational needs, or who use wheelchairs.
The brand's mission is straightforward: to make clothes that are both fashionable and genuinely fit for purpose - garments that make getting dressed, going to the loo, and living daily life easier, without sacrificing personal style or the freedom to choose what you wear.
What Adapted Trends can offer
Adapted Trends' current product focus is adaptive trousers and shorts, which have been developed through close feedback from users and carers over time, resulting in a V2 design that addresses the practical realities of everyday life as a wheelchair user.
Key design features include:
- Wider leg in the thigh area and low waisted front for comfort when seated.
- Two-way open-ended zip down the centre of each leg makes dressing and undressing easier and allows wearers to access prosthetics, catheter bags, stomas and feeding tubes without taking the trousers off.
- Wide drawstring bottoms to accommodate splints and prosthetics but can be tightened to shorten.
- High-waisted back to the trousers for full coverage of back when sitting and to conceal incontinence aids.
- Side pocket on each leg easily accessible and the size of a phone.
- Access hole in each hip pocket for feeding tubes.
Adult sizes are currently available in the V2 cargo trousers and shorts with plans to return to children's sizes in future. Adapted Trends continues to develop new designs in collaboration with users and carers.
The original Adapted Trends Cargo Trousers are still available for Juniors and Young People in smaller the smaller sizes.
Their trousers also make a considered and practical gift for someone living with SCI or using a wheelchair.
