About Wheeleasy Camping

Wheeleasy Camping was created by Sam, a wheelchair user who wanted to recapture the freedom and connection to nature that camping had always given him. Before his injury, Sam had dreamed of building his own campervan. When he couldn't find a fully accessible option on the market that worked for his large power chair, he decided to design one himself.

The result is Paddy - a fully wheelchair-accessible campervan that Sam describes as making the journey itself the start of the adventure. There are no stressful airports, no uncertainty about accommodation, and no compromises. Everything needed for a comfortable, fully accessible trip is right there with you from the moment you set off.

Wheeleasy Camping is based in Diss, Norfolk, and is a small, personal operation built around genuine care for its customers. Sam is hands-on throughout the hiring process and is available for advice, local campsite recommendations, and support throughout your trip.

What Wheeleasy Camping can offer

Wheeleasy Camping offers hire of Paddy, a fully adapted campervan designed specifically for wheelchair users, including full-time power chair users.

Paddy's accessibility features include:

  • Rear tail lift suitable for large power chairs
  • H-frame ceiling hoist for use throughout the van (excluding the cab), with its own rechargeable battery
  • Height-adjustable bed for easy transfer or hoisting
  • Wheelchair tie-downs for safe travel
  • Accessible shower and commode chair
  • Furniture that folds away during the day to create additional turning space
  • Space for a large power chair throughout
  • An awning that accommodates up to two additional guests, with camping chairs and a BBQ

The van weighs under 3.5 tonnes and can be driven on a standard licence. It runs on solar panels, batteries, and gas, with electric hook-up also available.

Wheeleasy Camping is ideal for people with SCI who want to explore the UK at their own pace, access nature on their own terms, and experience the genuine freedom of life on the open road - without having to plan around accommodation uncertainty.
