For some people living with a spinal cord injury, transferring into a car can become difficult or impossible without being able to weight-bear. The MPL XR can help people who are unable to complete an independent or assisted transfer to continue travelling in a standard car, rather than needing to move to a wheelchair accessible vehicle (WAV).

The person lift uses a supportive sling and powered lifting arm to transfer the user from their wheelchair into the original seat of the car. This can help reduce the need for a carer or family member to physically lift the person, while allowing them to travel in a standard car.

For someone with SCI, the right transfer solution will depend on their level of injury, mobility, transfer ability and individual needs. A professional assessment is important to confirm whether the MPL XR and the chosen vehicle are suitable.
